SD CDA Program - Region 1

Region 1 CDA Coordinator - Janessa Bixel (jbixel@earlychildhoodconnections.com) CDA CLASS OPTIONS A. CDA Classes at Early Childhood Connections – This program consists of an orientation and eight 4-week courses. The start of the program is August 30, 2022 and goes through April 25, 2023 Cost is $800 – all book, supplies & activities included (FULL SCHOLARSHIP is available if you work in a state licensed/registered program – must complete the scholarship agreement form) We meet every Tuesday 6:30pm-9:00pm (in person) Max class size is 20 students These classes are for all CDA settings (Infant/Toddler, Preschool, Family Child Care, Home Visitor) Discussions with other professionals Guidance compiling the CDA Professional Portfolio Transcripts released upon completion of classes A. SELF-STUDEY ONLINE CDA classes with Smart Horizons*** http://www.smarthorizons.org/childcare/purchase/courses/South_Dakota Self-study program, at your own pace on computer. 120 clock hours of classes. Choose Infant/Toddler or Preschool/Family option Age specific program Cost for classes only is $269 (no help with portfolio & no scholarship for classes available, however, there may be a scholarship for portfolio support available – paid to your local ECE office) Cost of $749 with portfolio assistance Payment due upon enrollment Transcript upon completion of program through Smart Horizons ***If taking classes through Smart Horizons, please note that you must also order a Competency Standards book $25.00 + shipping/tax. You can order your CS book here: https://yourcouncil.org/cfprssa/ecssashop.show_home_category?  Click on “CDA Competency Books” and select the correct book for your setting- VERY IMPORTANT: This book will guide you in how to put together your portfolio and is required during the Verification Visit as it has the assessment tool included in it. Do you need help with putting your portfolio together? This video can help: CDA Portfolio Video NEXT STEPS: AFTER CLASSES ARE COMPLETE – YOU NEED TO APPLY TO THE CDA COUNCIL When your 120 hours and portfolio are complete you may apply to the CDA council. Guidelines from CDA council (must have these before applying: 480 hours working in center-based care with children in age group of CDA in the last 3 years (can include volunteer work) High School Diploma or equivalent 120 clock hours of formal training (ex.- CDA classes at ECC or Smart Horizon) More information from the CDA Council can be found at: https://www.cdacouncil.org/en/educator-pathways/   HELP PROVIDED: The CDA Council now has tutorial videos that help guide you through the application process: https://www.cdacouncil.org/resources/webinars-and-tutorials   Application fee (paid to the CDA council) is $425 A second scholarship is available for the $425 fee if you work in a state licensed/registered program To qualify for this scholarship, you must: Work in a SD licensed/registered program AND Have taken the SD CDA program with Early Childhood Connections, or online with Smart Horizons AND If you are applying for the CDA Assessment Scholarship, you must contact Janessa Bixel, jbixel@earlychildhoodconnections.com as there is a Trainer Reference Form  that must be completed by the CDA coordinator to go along with the assessment scholarship. There is a 65-question exam you will take at a certified testing site, and a Verification Visit (observation) will also need to be scheduled with and completed by a PD Specialist after the council approves your application.
