Promoting self-awareness and creating a match between personal and professional goals in OST settings.  Understanding the importance of maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle. Exploring sources of stress for OST professionals and strategies for managing and reducing the effect of stress.

Module 8:              Human Relations Skill Development: Focus on Leadership Styles and Conflict Management

Exploring different leadership styles and skills and strategies to be effective in OST settings.  Exploring different styles of conflict management including diagnosing and managing conflicts effectively.

Module 9:              Exploring Ethics in OST:  Focus on a Professional Code of Ethics

Exploring the purpose and importance of ethical standards for the OST field.  Applying ethical standards to difficult problems.  Exploring the process of becoming a Certified Site of the Code of Ethics for School Age Care.

Module 10:              Current Trends and Issues in OST

Identifying the roots of OST programming from school-age child care; youth development; and education background.  Identifying important statistics that reflect children and youth and OST program services in the US.  Comparing national and local/state trends and issues in OST.

Module 11:              Youth Development Trends:  Focus on Older Youth

Exploring research on youth development and the asset-building approach to supporting youth development.  Exploring strategies for linking the developmental needs of early adolescents to activity planning.  Identifying a variety of youth program models and possible accountability approaches.

Module 12:              Creating Community Collaborations

Identifying successful collaboration characteristics.  Examining findings and recommendations from selected research projects.  Exploring strategies to utilize these findings in order to create successful collaborations in local communities.
