Three recognized credentials are currently available through Early Childhood Connections

SD OST Credential

The South Dakota OST Credential consists of the Credential  training combined with the Core and Certificate training and an additional 15 hours of independent study, including completion of a Professional Resource File and Portfolio. This credential will provide OST program staff the opportunity to earn a state specific school-age "Credential" similar to the national CDA credential for staff who work with infants, toddlers and preschool age children.

Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential

The SDCDA Training Project provides early childhood professional training and mentorship for individuals who work with children in child care centers, family child care homes, preschools, out-of-school programs and Head Start programs. 

The CDA Credential is a nationally recognized early childhood professional credential. 

SD Leadership Credential

The South Dakota Leadership Credential combines three specific areas of training;

  • Early Childhood Management Training:  A 20-hour course covering
  • Leadership Certificate: A leadership course taught through SDSU providing 6 college credits
  • 10 hours of approved, self-directed training

This credential has been approved by NAEYC as one of 12 state director/administrator credentials for NAEYC Accreditation.
